The world, being full of coincidences, throws a strange one at Jaff this afternoon. He gets a call before soundcheck from a mystery number, and he's pleased to hear the voice of some family he's barely seen in five years on the other end of the phone. Two of his cousins are back-packing around the US and they happen to be in Denver tonight and want to come to the show etc. They also turn out to be amazing pool players, and put the rest of us to shame in a two-hour rout in which we all lose a bit of money and pride.
(One thing about the Bluebird that gets my goat, is a policy that people younger than 21 cannot watch the band from the front part of the hall, and instead have to go up to a balcony - taking a bit of energy out of the show, and also giving you the fear about how many will be downstairs.) Tonight was packed though, and it was our best in Denver yet. |
