I get up early this morning - part of a promise I made myself to make it to the Motown Museum in Detroit. Visiting ‘Hitsville', as it became known, was quite a humbling experience really. Standing in the very room in which The Supremes and Stevie Wonder once recorded their greatest songs gives you some serious chills. The story of the label is a sad one - to me anyway, in the sense that inevitably, a thriving local record label moves off to LA and loses the plot. The Motown legacy is firmly rooted in Detroit, and my visit to the site of it will not be quickly forgotten.
Having only played Detroit once before, I don't think any of us were expecting an enormous crowd, but the show was good, and the audience' energy certainly made it better than our last appearance, in the Shelter venue. |
